Care2 : Speaking to members of the tech sector last week at the Passcode event in Washington, D.C., the FBI’s executive assistant director of its technology division, Amy Hess, called on those who create the means of protecting and securing Americans’ data to rethink their goals. Instead of developing the best encryption possible, she said, computer engineers should aim lower, to deliberately leave openings in the electronic walls keeping out the cyber thieves clamoring after citizens’ sensitive data.
